Big Black Chapters was founded in 2018 with the sole purpose of increasing awareness of Black and African American indie authors and their literary works. Even though we’ve exceeded our expectations, we understand there is still a lot of work to do for #OwnVoices storytellers and indie authors of color to break glass ceilings within the publishing world.
Over the past few months, the BBC Crew has pondered on ways we can better utilize our platform, while offering the same level of support to both readers and writers in the BBC Collective. If you’ve noticed, we have taken a hiatus from sharing #TheDailyRead book recommendations and leaving reviews on community members’ work.
However, #TheDailyRead is back and better than ever, along with new self-publishing support and book marketing services.
Book Marketing for Indie Authors
BBC has always been an avenue for indie authors of color to promote their work, and we do what we can to assist in sharing books, events, and news from writers in the group. However, we are now offering complete book marketing services including:
- Paid Promotions
- Promo graphics
- Cinema-style Book Trailers, and
- Much more
The support doesn’t stop there. Our goal has always been to support Black and Indigenous authors of color. After months of brainstorming, we decided the best way to do this is to offer our individual expertise. In addition to our new paid book promotions, BBC is now offering copywriting, editing, and proofreading services, plus a new author directory to the site. But, wait…there’s more.
What’s even better, these services are now available through Lulu Publishing’s new service provider marketplace!
Publishing with Lulu
Lulu is a creator-controlled self-publishing and print-on-demand company that is free to use. Recently, the company underwent major updates and has done away with their paid services program in order to focus on what they do best – print and fulfill book orders globally. Lulu decided to leave certain aspects of book publishing to dedicated providers such as Prolifiko, ProWritingAid, and now, Big Black Chapters.
The new Lulu Services Marketplace was designed to inspire greater collaboration within the writing community. They reached out to BBC to ensure the needs of Black and African American authors are met. We are excited for what this means for Big Black Chapters and all indie authors of color as we strive to get our voices heard and stories shared. In the end, this means more exposure for you and your story. If you are a member of BBC and publish through Lulu, your book will be shared and featured by both platforms, as well as the Big Black Chapter’s newsletter.
