5 Apps to Help You Hit That #NaNoWriMo Word Count

5 Apps You Need This #NaNoWriMo

It’s that wonderful time of year that writers either love or fear….it’s National Novel Writing Month.

Whether you’re a #NaNo newbie or a pro, the following are a few apps and sites you can use to hit that 50,000 words much easier.

NANO WRIMO.ORG

One of the best resources for National Novel Writing Month, comes from the creators of the popular event.

NANOWRIMO resources

The NaNoWriMo website and blog offers an array of resources for writers on all levels. The best thing about the blog is its built-in word count tracker. By creating an account and a new project, you can track your word count and view project stats.

TRUE NOVELIST

True Novelist is a cloud-based word processor and story planner similar to Scrivener. However, True Novelist is free to use and much more user friendly.

True Novelist tracks word count, writing time and speed as you type. Like Scriever, in True Novelist you can create outlines, folders and subfolders, and scenes, which can easily be shuffled or moved.

Inside the program, you can also create project or daily word count goals and track your statistics throughout the duration of the project. If you’re looking for an affordable,user-friendly alternative to Scriver, you can’t go wrong with True Novelist.

MYWRITE CLUB

myWriteClub was designed to help you crush your writing goals. So, of course it’s on the list of #NaNoWriMo resources.

Essentially, myWriteClub is a word sprinting app that allows you to “race” other writers around the globe during 15 minute writing sprint sessions. Your writing “friends” can view your progress in real-time and comment on your progression. If you have a competitive spirit, myWriteClub is perfect for you.

Writing Streak.io

Writing Streak was designed as a tool for writers to establish a daily writing habit. This app has built-in features to limit distractions, increase writing speed, and improve consistency.

A calendar at the time of the screen shows your word count per day and the amount of time you spent writing. The progress bar tracks your word count against your daily goals and shows your speed and productivity in real time.

Fighter's Block!

Turn your word count goal into a fun, monster-fighting game with Fighter’s Block. This writing app works to fight against procrastination and self-doubt by tricking your brain – switching it from work to fun mode.

Set your word count goal and speed for a writing sprint where you fight against a monster who wants to “eat and destroy” your words. The only way to defeat the monster is to keep typing before your life’s up.

Are you ready for NaNoWriMo?
