Oh, the Horror! Blacktober is Back!

October always brings fall, Halloween, horror movies, and my annual Blacktober prompt list! As a young girl, and even to this day, horror has always been my favorite genre. Horror allows you to tap into your inner dark side and another side to your creativity. Even if you’re not typically into writing horror, challenge yourself and give this Blacktober prompt list a try. This year, as always, I selected every day objects and themes that can easily be crafted into the perfect scary story to tell around a campfire, “Midnight Society” style. Check out the rundown of this list and some brief ideas of what you can do with each prompt.

Take it day by day, but also look ahead to start formulating what you want to write for the following day. I always participate in this challenge myself, and for the past two years I have yet to make it all the way to day thirty-one with thirty-one stories – so don’t feel bad if you can’t come up with a story for each day. They don’t call it a challenge for nothing. This challenge is meant to get those creative ideas circulating and to get you writing every day. If you know you can’t commit to writing every day due to a busy schedule, pick out your favorite prompts and try to come up with a story for each of those. Though Blacktober is meant to be a challenge, it’s also meant to be fun. Feel free to submit your stories to us. We will feature our favorites on the Big Black Chapters website!
